First Impressions
As it is currently National Bed Month, it only seems fitting to try and review an overnight beauty product. You can completely redefine beauty sleep with an over night masque.
I must admit, the only face masques I currently use are mainly from Lush, and a few of the bargain Superdrug sachet types (you know the ones I mean!) My lack of variety isn’t because of preference, I suppose you just stick with what you know. That is, until someone makes you aware of a new and exciting product to try…
I was really excited to receive one of the Dr Botanicals over night masques, because I was so damn curious! I’ve never ever used an over night skin care product before (aside from your bog standard moisturiser) and was interested to see how it worked and if it made a difference to my skin.
The Packaging
These little tubs are beyond handy, especially for a beauty product which will last over one use. You can keep it fresh and take it places without having to worry too much about leakage (what a word).
The minimalistic black and white design of the tub also ticked all the boxes for me, as well as the gorgeous rose coloured little box it came in. Dr Botanicals even has some handy instructions on the packaging which reassured me that YES you are supposed to leave this stuff on your face over night…
Dr Botanicals Advanced Purifying Overnight Masque
On opening my cute little tub I was a little surprised to discover the smell… Or lack of. I wasn’t disappointed but usually with fancy-pants products like this you are hit with powerful aromas. With this I got absolutely zilch. To be honest though, I’m not surprised because it’s jammed full of natural ingredients, which I have taken from the Dr Botanicals site and listed below:
- Papaya is rich in minerals as well as Vitamin C, which regenerates cells and boosts skin radiance for younger-looking skin.
- Jojoba Oil enhances skin’s natural suppleness and elasticity
- Sweet almond oil is renowned for its soothing, softening and moisturising properties, containing essential fatty acids as vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E; all essential for healthy skin
It all sounds pretty perfect right? When a product is vegan friendly and made from 100% natural ingredients, you can expect there to be little to no smell because of the lack of chemicals. It’s a good sign because if you left a product on your face over night which contained too many artificial ingredients, it could result in an incredibly upset, puffy face.
The consistency of the Dr Botanicals facial masque was incredibly weird. It wasn’t as gloopy or thick as my bog standard moisturiser, and yet it wasn’t as runny as other moisturisers. It reminded me of PVA glue?! HA of all things! I say this because when I pinched my fingers together with the product on and then separated them, it went all stringy and strange. It took me back to primary school when I’d paint PVA glue onto my hands just to peel it all off. (Everyone did that right?)
How did I get on?
So I did what I was told, I applied a small layer of the facial masque to my face and left it to do it’s magic over night. I was really glad that it didn’t get tight, or start peeling or cracking throughout the night. To be honest, I was mainly concerned for the welfare of my white bed linen!! But there were no disasters. When I woke up, I cleansed as usual and ohhhh myyyyy was my face soft. I felt like I’d shed a layer of skin over night and been reborn. Storm Doris and my daily work commute has meant that my skin has recently been in battle with the wind, the cold and the air conditioning at work. A royally crap combo. I didn’t expect miracles from this little tub, and although all it obviously hasn’t solved all life’s problems, I feel like it’s gone great lengths to help me with my skincare regime.
